moulage en laiton

How is Brass manufactured? The process starts with unique “brass casting” practice. Brass casting is a wonderful process which enables people to create different shapes by pouring hot, melted brass into a mould. Brass hardens and adopts the shape of mold when it cools down. And so it all starts with the first step in creating something really special and original.

Brass Casting is an ancient practice that has been a part of the human experience for thousands and thousands of years with so many incredible things having been made from it. All this comes at no cost—–stature, decoration and even musical instruments such as horns and bells. The ancient method of lost-wax casting was once employed in brass work. Under this technique, design is first created in wax. The wax model is then heated until the wax dissolves. This leaves a void in the mold where the molten brass will be poured to form up and replace lost wax.

    Techniques and Traditions

One of the nice ways you can go is following “sand casting”. This involves making a mold by surrounding the shape or pattern with sand. With the melted brass poured inside this mold filling up space and that is how it shapes into design. Each method of fishing has its steps and will take practice in which to truly learn the art.

If you are really looking forward to trying out brass casting for the first time, below is a list of essential tools and some great tips that can help any beginner get off on the right foot. First, you will need a mold. They can be made from plaster, clay or even sand based on what you are trying to make. You will also need a furnace to melt the brass temperature is about 1650°F (or 900°C). Also, you must have a crucible to keep the molten brass in one place securely.
