casting parts

In this SCEVA blog, today we will discuss about how can we manufacture parts through the process called as casting! Ever seen someone pour molten hot metal into a mold that's shaped especially for it? They then let the metal to cool and harden. Casting is the process of creating parts for many items that we use in our day to day life which makes it a very good processing. Those may be vehicles, airplanes, toys and even your specialty juice bottle from where you drink.

Casting parts is no small feat, and there are lots of important things that you should know. The very first step to start casting, is to have a mold in place that you can pour the hot flowy metal. Material of molds: This mold can be made out of a variety materials, such as sand or clay and even metal. You must wait for the molten metal to cool down and light up in your mold before removing it. The cooling of those parts can range from just a few minutes up to several hours, amounting on the part size and type. Remove the part once the metal has cooled and hardened completely. Finally, you may have to take some more action after this: the edges can be smoothed out and/or polished for a shiny surface.

Different Types of Casting Processes for Parts

There are various manufacturing procedures that people use when casting parts. In the United States, one of them is sand casting where mold made from sands. This is an inexpensive and simple casting fashion. The second way is investment casting where the mold is given a wax form. With this process, the metal is allowed to cool down then the wax mold (usually enclosed in a ceramic) is melted away which leaves you with your part. They can also be die cast, where liquid metal is forced into a mold under high pressure. This approach also enables to create very detailed shapes. Regardless of how you choose to cast your part, the resulting item should look like a mold.
